Meeting notes 4-04-00 Current updates: The meeting was well attended by 8 people who contributed a lot to the discussion and planning. A lot was accompished. Sargent Dale McCormick presented the current plan for the Park Police to have three forms of patrol active that afternoon- Mounted Police, Bike Patrols, and Squad cars. He also showed new signs and a campaign for the Safe and Sober education effort by the police that may coincide that week with the event. Lt. Evenrud has given lots of support. We are pleased to have their support for this event. Katie D. announced Councilmember Sandy Colvin-Roy's office has offered their media relations support to help publicize the event , and print flyers, which Katie has organized all the information for. Mark related that Eric Johnson 612 277-4753 of Traffic Technologies LLC has agreed to the loan of 4 foot by 8 foot dynamic computer programmed warning sign to help us get our message across to drivers before they arrive at the the 29th intersection and he will also demo "in the crosswalk" divider signs that can be hit by car without causing any damage. Al Hage of Seward community took notes for their organization and offered to rally support of the Seward community for this event and get volunteers for the 24th street site which is a marked crosswalk. Patrick Connoy offered to rally support for the 36th Street intersection and voiced strong concern by neighbors there over the lack of parkway drivers stopping for the stopsigns there and on 36th street further in. Mary Jo offered to write letters and get an awareness campaign going via editorials, as well as videotape the event! We have scheduled Mpls radar speed wagon to be displayed three mondays in a row- before, during and after. We plan to borrow the signs made last year for the St. Paul Safewalk event and reuse then here. We also meet next at the event sponsered April 18th to train communities in creating simular events - see main page for address and next meeting dates. May 2nd will be our last big planning meeting just before the May 6-7-8th weekend. We are planning to provide flyer inserts for neighborhood churches on Sunday May 7th We need people to volunteer as intersection captains for each site. We need donations of portable open sided tents for the three intersections in case of rain. We need donations of sign making materials. Banners too.
