Crosswalk Pedestrian Safety effort underway-
next planning meeting January 11th, 2000

We are extending an open invitation to all interested Longfellow residents to help us begin planning January 11th next year for an important driver safety awareness event in late spring along West River Parkway.

Modeled after the very successful SafeWalk St. Paul campaign on Sept 13th, 1999, our education demonstration project will help raise driver awareness about the updated state crosswalk law that has raised fines for motorists to up to $700 in fines and 90 days in jail for those who fail to stop for pedestrians who have entered a marked crosswalk.

Of particular concern is the consistently higher volume and high speed of over 35 MPH on the parkway that has always been posted as a 25 mph SPEED LIMIT. Many near-accidents have been occurring and pedestrians along the parkway are becoming concerned about the difficulty in safely crossing the parkway in clearly MARKED crosswalks.

Please join us 7-9 pm at the Brackett Park building, 2728 39th Ave South, on Tuesday January 11th, 2000.
